The Intruder Tried to Hijack Court-Blocked Domain Names

Quite detective stories sometimes happen in the domain business. One of them was recently reported by the Torrent Freak. Some time ago, MG Premium won a case in Federal Court for the Western District of Washington. This company is part of the MindGeek conglomerate, which owns many adult online resources, including, for example, Pornhub. At the dawn of their existence, these resources did not disdain pirated content, but then the situation changed dramatically. Today, MindGeek zealously defends copyrights, as the content of its own sites is constantly being targeted for piracy.

In the case of MG Premium, the lawsuit was filed against Vasily Kharchenko, who runs Daftsex.com, Artporn.com, Biqle.com and Daxab.com. They used MindGeek's secure content and garnered tens of millions of hits every month. The outcome of the case was absolutely a foregone conclusion, Kharchenko, of course, did not consider it necessary to appear before American justice. The court decided to recover from him the damage caused to the plaintiff in the amount of 32 million dollars, and to transfer the domain names used for pirated sites to be managed by MG Premium.

And then there was the main detective turn of the story. A few days later, Verisign, which is the registry for these domains, received an official letter asking them to comply with the court order - that is, to remove the blocking imposed during the process on the domains and provide the authorization codes to the new owner. The email was sent from mgpremiumltd@gmail.com and looked like a request from MG Premium. However, by this time the company had already contacted the registry. Thus, the letter was an obvious fake. The sender hoped in this way to gain control over the domain names - or, more likely, to keep it. MG Premium believes that the same Kharchenko is behind the forgery - and has already filed a new lawsuit against him.
