On 5 September 2011, Coordination Center for TLD RU, together with Technical Center of Internet and statistical service Openstat launches a unique project – statistical online resource “Domains of Russia” (статистикадоменов.рф or statdom.ru).
The resource “Domains of Russia” will present daily updated statistics, which will cover all aspects of the Russian segment of the Internet. Owing to the new resource, the users can find out how many domain names have been registered in the Russian domain space to date, how many of them already have operating sites, and which Russian region boasts of the most domain names and when one should expect new domains to spring up.
The resource also boasts of a unique section “World Statistics”, which gathers monthly data on the number of domain names in the largest (over a million domain names) ccTLDs.
In addition to domain statistics, the site will provide data on the web servers serving domains .RU and .РФ, and on the servers’ operating systems. The section “Audience Estimation” will provide information on browsers, mobile gadgets, and providers who help users get online. In this section, one can get information on geographical distribution of Russian Internet users.
The “Analytics” section boasts of a whole lot of various analytical materials. It comprises reports, which describe main trends of domain space development and the Internet in Russia and worldwide, as well as complex specialized studies covering all aspects of the industry development. One of the studies, for example, is about linguistic analysis of domain names in domain .РФ.
The Main Register of domains .RU and .РФ, web-crawler's data, which scans sites across registries’ domains and Openstat’s specialized counters form principal sources of statistical information posted on the resource. The register data is daily processed by Openstat for reporting, graphs and diagrams. For the analysis of the evolution of domains .RU and .РФ, CC and TCI experts employ a most comprehensive set of indices, which never before have been provided to users in such volume. For example, data on the use of second-level domains in domains .RU and .РФ were obtained by analyzing all registered domain names, rather than by sampling.
“Domains of Russia” is instrumental for both journalists and analysts specializing on development and functioning of domain space and the Internet as a whole, as well as for a wide range of outside visitors keen to know more about the Russian and foreign domains’ operations.
